Some Handbrake questions from a first timer....

Hello Everyone,

I apologize for yet another DVD Ripping/Handbrake question, but I've been reading over threads/Google and I can't find the answer.

I am on a MacBook Air running 10.15.3. I'm trying to play around with trying to start the process of ripping dvd's and transferring them to digital. I've started with one that is a Criterion DVD. As it's copy protected, I downloaded Mac DVD Ripper Pro on the suggestions of other posters, and did that. The movie is 130 minutes long and I got 8 VOB files that run about 1.07 GB each. I was able to covert the first one with Handbrake and it was about 6 1/2min. When I try to convert the rest of them, I get "No valid sources found" error message.

1. Can anyone provide some insight as to what the problem might be with the error message?

2. Is there a way to have to whole movie in one piece rather than in parts? Would I need a different software for the ripping? When I ripped it, I chose "All menus, videos and bonuses". Should've I gone with "rip and convert" instead?
 
Its been years since I ripped DVDs but VOBs are the DVD files, playable by the DVD app. Does the troublesome VOBs open and play with VLC? If not, they may not have been decrypted properly, or are not compatible with the ripper. Try another DVD.

If the VOBs are decrypted and compatible with Handbrake, it should have opened the VOBs and presented you with a number of streams, the largest one is usually the main feature, others are extra material. You don't open the VOBs individually. You open the folder containing the VOBs and files.

You need to open the VIDEO_TS or the parent folder is HandBrake, not the single VOB files.
 
Thanks for the suggestions! I've now tried it with another movie that FINALLY was able to fully convert in Mac DVDRipper pro. However, when I went to convert it in Handbrake, it asked me if I wanted to overwrite, which I assumed Yes as that was my only option. However, when I did, it almost instantaneously failed, so now I've lost the MDRP rip and I've only got 1 rip left in my trial. ARG!

I never realized that this would be so challenging. I've read and read and still have been unsuccessful.
 
Handbrake is very capable. It can work with protected DVD - often the issue is that it starts with a different Title.
Have you ties using just Handrake? Is it the latest version? Is VLC the latest version? Have you tried google: Handbrake Criterion?
