Hi,

I know I'm probably not in the right forum for this but you are the guys are the best for answers.

what does it mean if people can see my I.P. address?
I was bored wanting for e-mails from my sister and I was hanging about Wikipedia were I spotted an error and thought I try edit it. But if you edit with no account your I.P. address is entered in the edit history.

Have I done something stupid that will affect my Mac and internet?

Please advise me.

IP number is just your sort of identification on the internet.

It will save your IP on wikipedia, so that if you edit wikipedia with false info they can track who did that. If you do that often, (maybe even just once) wikipedia can then simply just block your IP from accessing their webpage.

but it is there for everyone to see. along with a lot of others.

can someone use it to for nasty deeds? :(

no, the myth that someone can use your IP for malware of hacking you is a rather silly one.

if it were possible to do that, then NOONE on the internet would be safe :p

these days with modern OS's having firewalls, and routers having hardware firewalls, and just modern technology in general... it isnt THT easy to hack someone. I assure you, your safe.
