Been meaning to get round to this for a while. 2 MacBooks here. One is mine one is not.

Let's start with mine as its probably simple. I used to be able to easily access my Desktop or Downloads in finder. Checking now both are showing, but this isnt always the case. Also when I download from Safari it doesn't go to downloads anymore and this is one of the times when I cant easily find it to save the file to this location.

The other MacBook I cant remember exactly what I did a while ago. I think I had to turn off/on iCloud sync to solve some issues. This then resulted in the iCloud files on desktop/documents etc being resaved somewhere else. Now where documents would have been on the dock is now iCloud (iCloud/Documents). There is also under HD/users/name folders called, iCloud (Archive) and iCloud (Archive) - 1. Where did these come from and am I safe to delete these?

Hope this all makes sense. Thanks for any help

I don't know if your problem is as simple as this, but if you open a finder window (such as a hard drive) then go to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar you tick on or off what you want to show in the finder sidebar. Clicking on the General tab and you can tick on or off what you want to appear on the desktop. That is where I would check.

Under Safari>Preferences>General you can pick where downloads are stored, or set it so you choose each time you download. You can also do this with Firefox, and probably all other browsers. I prefer to pick each time.

I hope this helps.
