Some iMac ram questions

Hi Guys,
My Daughter and I both purchased 27" iMacs at the same time,
I maxed mine out, (lots of image processing),
My Daughter went for the i5 and minimum ram, (8GB), (2x4GB),
Found now, she really needs 16GB ram

1. What brand do Apple use?
2. Can you mix different brands?, and
3. Is there any difference in performance between 4x4GB and 2x8 GB?

Hynix or something like that is the brand used by Apple.

Just get Crucial or Corsair RAM, it is considered to be very good.
It is okay to mix brands and the only performance difference between 4x4 and 2x8 is having the opportunity to add a further 2x8 later with the latter configuration.

Thank you for the heads-up

I'm pretty sure she will never go past 16GB
She is looking at budget so thought 2x4 would be the most economical direction for her but wasn't sure if you could "mix and match" and whether there were performance trade-offs
