I Thought we should just get some information out there for all jailbreakers regarding The upcoming 1.1.3 update.

So firstly, when 1.1.3 eventually comes up and is available for download you can gladly download it. Just DO NOT install it. No one knows how 1.1.3 will act on the iPod Touch (you may brick your device, and no one would like that). We should just hold tight until a similar solution such as Oktoprep (A solution devised to upgrade a 1.1.1 jailbroken iPod/iPhone to 1.1.2 since 1.1.2 could not be jailbroken directly) comes out to safely upgrade to 1.1.3 with your 1.1.2 jailbroken iPod Touch.

If you really want 1.1.3 the solution is to restore your iPod with the 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPod Touch Firmware update and then install the 1.1.3 update. Restoring your iPod will make it lose all its content but then again, you will have the 1.1.3 update and possibly legitimate installable apps. Apple is releasing an SDK (Software Development Kit) in February which will allow ordinary people to code applications for teh iPhone/iPod Touch which will possibly end the usefulness of the jailbreak project.

If you do upgrade to 1.1.3 you WILL NOT be able to downgrade as apple is trying to discourage unlocking of iPhones (they don't really care about jailbreaking), this is not to say that it won't be possible somewhere down teh line for someone to possibly figure out a way to jailbreak 1.1.3 .

In my personal opinion I feel that It would be best to stick with 1.1.2 jailbroken and see how the 3rd party applications market turns out. If it's good (and free) I'll jump on, if not then I'll hope that jailbreak remains useful and doesn't get destroyed due to a lack of interest.

So in short:
  • Do not install 1.1.3 on a jailbroken iPod Touch
  • If you want to install 1.1.3 restore your iPod
  • If you install 1.1.3 you can't go back
  • Don't forget about the 3rd party apps and SDK

Anything I missed? This may want to be stickied.

...Or use common sense and read about the effects of the update. (and it's very unlikely that it would brick your ipod)

...Or make a mistake because they don't code jailbreak apps like you. Not everyone out there is as observant as you, sir...

For someone who is tech savvy like myself and a lot of readers on these forums, this is common sense. But you'd be surprised how many people need a thread like this. Just look at all the posts of "why do some songs on my ipod have artwork when others dont?" It's a good idea IMO, thanks for looking out for everyone.

Amen to that.

I cannot believe anyone would jump on someone just for trying to be helpful.

Well, we already know from the leaked 1.1.3 that, once upgraded, it can't downgraded to 1.1.1. So no going back for re-jailbreaking.

So no, definitely don't rush to update to 1.1.3.

Edit: I should point out that the leaked 1.1.3 was for the iPhone not the iPod, so who knows. Better safe than sorry, though.

Regarding the original post - a good idea to sticky something like this, because, undoubtedly, there'll be people that don't realise or don't have the common sense, to consider the issues caused by updating.

Regarding most of the other posts - move it here, guys. There's no place for this in the main forums.

Good points and a good reminder for people like me with a short memory.
Nice job :)

Do we have a guess on the date of the release? MacWorld?

Also, could there be more features incorporated into the iPod touch's update then the iPhone? Such as, we can't use the "Find Me" in Google Maps, so will Apple add something different in? This is the first (hopefully) real update since the iPod touch was released...:apple:

your guess is as good as mine.

I installed 1.1.3 over my Jailbroken 1.1.2. I lost my installer and all the 3rd party apps but nothing happened to any of my music or the ipods software.

How
should I go from Jailbreak
1.1.1 to 1.1.3? Should I
still OktoPrep?
if you still want jailbreak
then dont update. If you
want wobbling icons and
other features but no 3rd
party apps then just do a
straight update.

Does anyone know when abouts in February the SDK will be relased for iPhone. I am really looking forward to seeing some great apps on iPhone without the need for all this jailbreaking business everytime a new release comes out,
