I just started experiencing a problem with my Mid 2015 15" MacBook Pro. A couple of the keys ("R" and "T") aren't registering key presses unless I hit the key dead in the center. If I happen to press the key on the side instead of dead in the center, it won't register the press a lot of the time. This isn't a problem on other keys that I have noticed. I cleaned under one of the keys and it didn't help. Not sure if it's a problem with those white pieces under the key, the key itself, or the rubber thing that presses down.

Unfortunately because of the butterfly keyboard fiasco, it's hard to find info on pre-butterfly keyboard problems. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!

The "R" and "T" keys are alongside each other, so it's possible that some dirt or other debris have gotten under them.

Did you completely remove the keys to clean underneath? Also, if the keys and mechanisms are worn it may be possible to replace them. Check eBay for parts. The ifixit site has instructions.

Thanks for the fast response. I chipped off part of the T key when I tried to remove it to give it a second cleaning so it looks like I'll be buying a new one anyway lol. The second cleaning didn't improve it.

I noticed that an entirely new keyboard is only $20 from ifixit or this one from eBay. At that low of a price, would I be better off just buying the whole keyboard and popping off the keys I need to try them? That way, I have the option to replace the whole keyboard if I need to. I understand that's a labor intensive task but I'm not afraid to put in the work and have done many repairs to my MacBooks over the years.

I have this problem with my mid-2012 MBP 15 inch. The "e" and "h" keys don't register half of the time. I constantly make typos because those letters are missing and I have to go back and enter them again. I've tried removing the keys and cleaning underneath with compressed air. Oh well.

I have a problem with left shift function control option and command buttons not responding on my mid-2012 13". Not quite as critical as the letters or numbers, just kind of irritating.
