Several files that I ripped from DVD have gotten to where they won't play except in VLC. Any idea why this is or how to remedy it? I can't stream the movies using Plex anymore.

As simplest attempt - try Optimize command with Subler.
If that does not help, then i have no better advice to give, unfortunately.

Optimize in Subler failed. The only thing that has worked is opening and resaving in QuickTime. But that changes the file to a QT movie. And it's time consuming

So it plays in VLC, quick time (since you can convert it?), but not Plex?

What program did the encoding? What standard did it use for the encoding? You can get that information from something like MediaInfo:

I used HandBrake to rip the DVDs. The file I re-saved in QuickTime played OK on Plex, but there are several files that won't play and it will take a long time to go back and resave them all. I am wondering what happened to them!

If you make one of the failing files available somewhere if I get time I can look at it.
