Hello all,

two days ago I got my Apple Watch SE and some things are not entirely clear to me:
  1. When does it count training? Is it coupled with pulse? Yesterday I tried walking slower and faster and it seemed to count everything without me explicitly starting a training session. That's ok, just want to understand
  2. When I cycle/run, do I have to confirm the training begins (watch asks)? What happens, if I don't confirm?
Is the sport loop arm band any good? I have the silicone sport band and it can get sweaty under there quickly and the feeling is not perfect for me.

Thanks!

I forgot where in Apple's documentation I found the following, but basically, you get credited for any activity. The Watch senses you are "active" and will measure heart rate at a greater rate. Generally, if idle, heart rate is measured every five-ish minutes, walking around the house, every couple of minutes, more frequent when really active. So active energy, distance, steps for the day is pretty spot on.

But if wanting to see more acurate exercise minutes and breakdowns, need to start a Workout as that is measuring heart rate every five-ish seconds.

In watchOS 5 or later, when your Apple Watch senses that you’re working out, it taps you on the wrist and asks. Tap an option within the notification to record the workout, change the workout type, mute notifications for the day, or dismiss the notification. No matter when you tap, you’ll get all your workout credit from the time you started exercising.

And guessing something similar to how VO2 is calculated is going on with general workout info (ie. Increase in activity sensed).
