OK I am planning on getting an iPhone 3GS soon but I dont plan on getting a plan. So the phone is going to cost me a pretty penny.

Due to the recent change I plan on going to an Att store and buying one out right.

Is it all possible for me to easily jailbreak and unlock a new phone so I could put a prepaid SIM card in it and use it like any normal person would with the plus of having it jailbroken.

Also one more quick question. I keep reading in some places about the phone being "tethered". what does this mean?

please

for your own benefit do some research and searching. I would not trust complete strangers. there is no way to tell who here is a expert or a idiot!

1st a new model should be out in a couple months FYI! JB and unlock hopefully a month or two after!

you can jailbreak and unlock 3.1.2 or below no Jb or unlock for 3.1.3

3rd tethered jb you must be connected to the computer at start up! some don't mind others think it's a Pain in the A$$!

Also several rumors out there next Ip[hone might be on other networks besides AT&T but nobody knows for sure!

Thank you for the reply. If I were to buy one, would 3.1.3 be already on it? Im hoping to get this for the summer so ill be buying it somewhat soon.
So wait if I were to turn off the phone I have to hook it up to my computer to turn it back on?

Thank you for the assistance!

You have a very great chance that it will have 3.1.3 already installed on it. I have an iphone from the first week of Feb. and it had 3.1.3 installed, my mom got one last, also having 3.1.3.

yup

no way to know for sure but I say it's getting slim out there! next JB will probably not be released till after 4.0 comes out! and unlock is yet unconfirmed.

Damn... I guess I'll wait to see what the supposed verizon iphone will bring to the table.

You infact can downgrade to 3.1.2...

I recently bought an iPhone 3G it came with 3.1.3 so I just downloaded the firmware tryed downgrading, got the error than I used blackra1n and it booted up fine, opened iTunes and setup iPhone as normal piece of cake! :) if you need more info PM me
