Many apps, especially the App Store, has had elements increased in vertical size. The top charts used to hold 5 apps in one screen, now only 4. Across all apps, the bottom navigation bar has being enlarged on the new UI.
If the next iPhone were to have a longer screen, it'd make sense.
EDIT: Just noticed Voice Memo's microphone graphic is longer than it fits on the screen - the "default.png" is designed for a screen larger than the current iPhone, and when the app is loaded the actual graphic is stretched down. Pretty much concrete proof.
