Some Questions about the iphone contract and att plans

Ok guys, So I now have accumulated enough money for the actual phone (16gb). I am able to pay for the monthly data plan and what not but I am currently on a family plan with Sprint. Now if i am able to manage to leave my part of the family plan without a termination fee and create a new contract with att as a individual, can i then later on change into a family plan with att later on? I am wondering because I dont know if all members of my family are ready to switch because they dont care about phones and just want to stick with their number but I really want an iphone. sorry for wall of text
