A little background, I've been using Macs sometime since the time of 040 based Quadra, still have G4 macbook. But I'm system agnostic, I'm using what suits me best at a given time. and I dropped the macs when they switched to Intel. Sure i bought some Apple laptops since, but never took them seriously. I've been getting really tired of Windows recently, because of their attempts to create a single system for both touch and actual computer users, at the expense of the computer users, and recently refusing to offer 32 GB option,

So here we have 32GB in a Macbook and I'm baaaack.

1. Build quality is definitely better than that of Dell/Lenovo. Although I never cared about keeping my previous laptops clean, but now I have a microfiber cloth on the keyboard, because of stain gate. So while the chassis looks like it can take a beating, the screen seems fragile.
2. Do you really have to pay for even the simplest apps? Damn it, spend 60 bucks to access bitlocker encrypted HDD. And slow as hell. In hindsight, I should have just connect it directly to to Windows VM.
3. Mac OS (OSX no more?) seems to be the good old one I used to love. Decent Unix implementation witch slick window manager. A little convoluted kernel modules but I guess you can get used to it. Homebrew > Cygwin, Native bash. Awesome.
4. Display - this is no contest really, Mac is so superior is not even funny. From the anti glare coating to scaling of virtual resolutions. My old eyes appreciate it, and main reason to abandon Windows based systems.
5. Keyboard - I can live with 3rd gen butterfly, I have macbook 12 inch 2016 which i think is first gen and the difference is huge. Still can't beat Lenovo keys, but workable.
5. Commercial software. I guess the bulk of Mac users are artists and what not, but I'm a mechanical engineer and having to run all my stuff in VM is a little annoying. Not a deal breaker though, I've been doing it even before on Windows host.
6. The only thing I'm missing from Windows system is Total Commander, the most useful piece of software ever created. Still searching for a viable alternative. The good old MC does the job most of the time, but I miss all the TC extensions.
7. Heat issues. Crank up the fans Apple. But nothing an app couldn't take care of. I'd prefer my laptop louder but cooler, but that's just me.
8. Touchbar. Can I turn this thing off somehow? It kind of gets in the way. I hit it way too often by accident.

In general, I'm happy. Right now I'm fully switched to Mac, and like it much more than the previous Dell/Lenovo/Sager/Gigabyte and Compaq laptops I had since the G4 age. And I didn't experience any issues with sound/crashing as documented in other threads. Lucky me I guess. Although I have speakers crackling in Bootcamp, but this has to be software issue.

Just a quick note: keeping covers on your keyboard while closing the laptop is a sure way to damage your display due to extra pressure. "Staingate" was a coating peeling issues and has nothing to do with the user behaviour (btw, in over 40 laptops we cycled since 2012, I had only one case of this occurring). Just wipe your keyboard/display once per week with a cloth and its fine.
