Some Weird issues

Ok, please see if I am crazy or need help. But sometimes my coverflow for images will not show the images just the file names....
and last night my external hard drive has some folders in it, but they files are there they just will not show, it looks like they are blank.

But once I transfer them into my desktop, I can see them just fine.

Can anyone tell me what it going on, My Mac is very new...I got it this year.
