I went to pick up food. I come back to my desk and the cap from my pencil is gone....But the pencil is still there.

WTF?!

Practical joke? And where did you leave the Pencil, and why would you leave the Pencil? My parents always taught me to never leave my Pencils unattended! Except in those days they were pencils, not Pencils.

Sorry for your loss. I wonder if Apple have replacements. :)

It looks so weird with the connector sticking out. I'm checking around my cube. I wonder if it came off during charging and i forgot to put it back on but I was pretty anal about the cap. I just took the lightning port to lightning port adapter as my replacement cap for the time being. Looks retarded.

I'm hoping that Apple does make replacement caps...probably will cost an arm and a leg

Found it...it rolled over to a different cube and it was in the corner.

Whew. Nevermind for this topic.

Yeah trust me these are going to just fall off, I wonder if we will be able to order just the caps.

I think that this basically means i should accept the ultimate fate.

Just stick your pencil cap on the top bezel of the iPad while charging and you will remember to put it back on right after.

I like that your first thought was to post about it instead of search for it.

Why didn't Apple tether the cap to the pen so it's not easily lost or design it without cap and self retracting?

I too lost the cap in the office and went crazy looking for it. Problem was it was in my pants pocket, so I couldn't understand how I had lost it.

Retraced my steps and found it under a table. :D Turns out that the Pencil is just long enough that if I put it in my pants pocket with the pointy end in first, the cap rubs against the top of the pocket. So, it can catch the edge of the pants pocket and pop off. Not good.

Some enterprising soul in China is going to start selling bags of 5 spare pen caps for $9.99.

The Pencil makes no sense in all its non-sketching characteristics.
  • Why have a cap at the end which you can't cover the tip when charging?
  • Why not add some electronics to make the cap more useful, like being able to use it as an eraser or adding a push-switch so you can make a custom toggle event?
  • Why is there no mechanism to make it easier to prevent it from being lost?
I love how it works, but not how it charges or stores...

My crystal ball: 6 months from now, we will see 90% of Apple Pencil in use without caps.

I think that's going to be the downside of apple's pencil design. I've seen some other articles or reviews stating that in all likelihood the cap is going to go missing in the course of time

Someone should start manufacturing silicon cap tethers for the Pencil. A bag of 3 for $15.00.:D

Apple *really* needs to sell replacement caps and tips. Not sure how long (for the busy artists) each tip is supposed to last yet. Also wish it had just a normal cap to cover the pencil tip when in storage/transport.
