I think its just a bit of debris from somewhere. It means that the dock connector has to sit in the iphone at an angle, as it wont properly click in.

Would a genius bar appointment be able to help me out with this? :)

I had this happen once. It turned out to be dust/lint that had collected in there - probably from my pocket. It had gotten thick enough to get caught on the side of the charger as it was plugging in, and had all bunched up and gotten jammed in there. I used an exacto knife to (very carefully) scrape it out, and haven't had any problems with it since. It was impossible to see - I just had to be thorough.
