Verizon says its the largest network and US cellular the most trusted but what I want to know is the smaller carrier such as USCC they obviously dont have masts up everywhere so do they roam on another networks masts?

yes most if not all of regional and small operators are what is known as MVNO. They buy time/sms/data in bulk and then resell it. Building out your own network is a tedious and expensive process

Be aware that this is all marketing too. Don't take statements like "most trusted" literally. I don;t even know how a company would conclude that they are the most trusted network in America.
