I am not sure if this has been discussed before, but being that there is already a illuminated keyboard, I would really like to see the USB and other ports on the side be illuminated as well.

I find myself laying in bed fumbling with the USB cord trying to get it into the slot when the room is dark.

It may be a small suggestion, but I do think it would be of some use with the future Macbook Pros.

What do you guys think?

As you use the computer a little more, you'll be able to find where these ports are without looking. So the lights will be useless by then.

But on a tangent...is there a way to get the optical audio to turn on without plugging in a toslink cable in there first?

I hate ports that light up.

Maybe they could make it operate like the keyboard where you can switch it on and off. Or maybe even make one of the "F" keys turn it on for a few seconds. I think that it would be a really good idea.

That would be pretty nice

If you tie it to the keyboard then users won't have the option to turn off one or the other. The lighted keyboard isn't really just for show. It
has great purpose. Unlike disco ports the op is proposing.

It needs to be tied to a separate F key, if its tied to the kb, then it wont be separate and would act when the kb backlight is on/off

Trouble getting it in the slot while in bed huh?

Yeah, it's really annoying to put it in the wrong hole.

How tacky. Would you really want your MBP to be lit up like a Vegas strip joint?

It's actually not that bad of an idea. A nice low faint glow kind of light. I accidentally touched my diplayport connector to the firewire port once and the machine powered down instantaneously.

It would be even cooler if it could change colors w. preferences like some of those ground effect lights I see on cars. Blue, orange, red, yellow.:p

I also wish Apple would some flashing lights all over my computer to tell me really obvious thinks like WiFi, volume, battery, ect.
Oh and some stickers telling me the processor and graphics chipset that are in my computer would be really nice because I hate using system profiler.

lol sarcasm. I wouldnt mind a switch for the wifi on a F key though. I miss that when going from a MBP to a windows laptop, where I can disable my wireless radios (wifi and bluetooth) with the click of a button.

Eh it is an "okay" idea. I wouldn't pay for the option.

I want a cookie maker that dispenses them out of the express card slot I never use.
