OK, so today I tried to listen to some music, and the headphones will only go in about half way. I look down there with a bright light, and there's something orange-ish and definitey foreign down there.

Should I contact Apple? I tried, very gently, to poke at it with a safety pin, but no luck. Will Apple take this in to repair? I don't have an Apple store anywhere near me, so Genius Bar is out of the question, but I have sent my iPhone in to Apple before. Will they accept this, or chalk it up to user error?

By the way, I take very, very good care of my iPhone. I'm practically OCD about it. Any help is appreciated.

they will probably take and repair it, but you may need to pay for it
unless its a part of the iphone that has become loose

Try and use a pin to get it out (very carefully) and if that doesnt work then take it in. I get fluff from my jeans in there all the time which stops them connecting etc

This happened to me.
Pocket lint :]
I took it into the Apple store and they fixed it for me. Free of charge.

Are you sure that there is something stuck down there? Maybe you got a little bit of water/liquid in there and the sensor changed from white to orange?
