There seems to be something going on with my 2019 MBA. Can't tell if it's due to hardware or software.

Every now and then, it slows to a crawl even when I'm just doing something simple like typing an email or a even a forum post. There will be a noticeable delay between me typing a character and it being displayed.

I've also noticed the system freezing up and the mouse going unresponsive.

And finally, last night a reboot happened while the machine was in suspend mode with the lid closed but connected to power. It's weird, but I just heard the reboot chime in the middle of the night. When I opened the machine up the next morning, the reboot completed and I got the message about an unscheduled reboot along with a message to send the info to Apple.

I'm still experiencing slow downs today with literally no apps running other than Chrome.

I had posted a while back in the Big Sur forum, thinking it might be malware.
I had also posted a problem to the macOS forum. I had a repeat occurrence of this today.

Is there any chance the SSD is starting to fail? Any other ideas? This is an 8GB/256GB configuration with 96GB of SSD free.

Have Activity Monitor ready and the next time this happens, take a look at what's eating your CPU and memory at that moment.
There’s nothing apparent when looking at the cpu and memory. Memory pressure is green. And cpu shows chrome with < 50%.

Open a new user, move your docs there, uninstall all non-stock apps and utilities, log in and see if the slowdown persists. If it persists, try wiping out SSD and reinstall OS.
