sometimes iPhone does not wake up from sleep

Sometimes after talking to someone I try to awake the phone from it's dark screen and no action whatsoever. I hit the home button but nothing, then I hit the top button and nothing, then I hit the bottom button and eventually it awakes and goes to my home page. What gives?
