Songs deleted from iTunes library still on phone?

I just really hate iTunes. I can never get things to properly sync between my iTunes library and what is on my iPhone. I uncheck songs in my iTunes library on my computer that I want to keep, but don't want them on my phone. Yet they still show up on my phone anyway.

Anyone know how to fix this?
