iPod touch Songs gone missing...can I recover from the iTouch?

Yes, this is a sad miserable testimony for failing to back up you HD. Recently lost HD, in process of installing new one. All was cool cuz I had my songs on my iTouch, well, this morning I get up and all the songs are gone! I am total screwed or can I read and recover the songs from the iTouch with some special software?
