kay - here's the story.

I have 2901 songs on my iPod (confirmed both in iTunes & on the iPod about menu).

On my iPod, when playing a playlist - only select songs will show up & play. This occurs in both smart playlists - and standard playlists I have copied from the smart playlists. For example - in my 3 Stars + playlist, there's 335 songs, shown in iTunes - on my iPod it's only 96. eg2 - if I select "Shuffle songs" (which should play all the songs on my iPod, no?) - it only has 532 in the playlist.

In iTunes - the playlists show up correctly, and play correctly. It also shows that they copied correctly to the iPod.

If I manually select the songs on the iPod - they will play fine. There are certain songs that will always appear and play in the playlist, but there seems to be no connection between them (ie dates/names/whatever) - as it occurs in single disc playlists (5 out of 10 songs will show in the playlist).

I have performed the 5R's multiple times - to no luck.

I am auto-sync'ing, tried manually sync'ing, enabling/disabling disk mode - and I've turned off compilation on all the songs. I have the latest version of iTunes & iPod software.

What the **** is going on with my iPod - it seems no-one else has this issue? As I've googled my arse off. Please help!
