Hello guys,

So I purchased the Breakaway Box + RX580 and I've been rocking it for about a week on macOS. Plug and play, works great for my setup of 4K monitor + laptop display.

I have three questions for you:
  1. What is the right 'procedure' to disconnect it when I need to take the laptop with me? I imagine just pulling the cable out while the laptop is in operation isn't good. Do I need a full shut down before disconnecting, do I need to log out, or putting the pc to sleep is enough?
  2. Likewise, what is the right 'procedure' to connect it? I don't usually shut down my laptop, so when I come back from work it's usually in sleep mode. Do I wake it up before connecting, do I leave it in sleep, then connect? Will it always require me to log out?
  3. And lastly, what's the current situation with Windows? It it is not a priority, but I would like to play some games every now and then. For the MacBook not to crash I need to connect it after Windows has started booting, and even then the RX 580 is recognized but with error code 12 (not enough resources). I tried disabling the port 10 (which supposedly belongs to the iSight camera) but I'm still unable to get it to work.
PS: 2016 13" nonTB MacBook Pro owner

Thank you in advance!

Well, in case anyone is curious:

I made it work, but the setup is not 100% stable.

First, boot camp needs to be installed and ready to go (with the RX580 drivers installed). Then you'll need to create an EFI USB stick and run a .bat file (see HERE). From System Preferences, change the default boot OS to Windows. With the eGPU connected into the second port (closest to `) and USB stick connected to the first one (closest to esc key), reboot, hold ALT and boot from the EFI usb. Windows will boot normally. If eGPU is still not working, disable PCIE Port 9D19 and reboot.

I say that this isn't 100% stable because sometimes (when connecting and disconnecting hard drives and different peripherals) the MacBook would just freeze, forcing me to force shut down.

If anyone knows how to improve this setup, please let me know.

Thanks
