I have a pair of Sonnet D500P 5 bay RAID enclosures built with a 1.5/3 G eSATA port multiplier. I used to run them with the Sonnet E4P PCIe card. Now that I've switched to an ATTO R680 for my primary SSD RAID project storage and have a newer Sonnet Tempo Due with (2) USB 3.0 ports and (2) eSATA 6g ports, I have thought about upgrading these older D500P enclosures.
The upgrade would not be that hard using either a http://www.addonics.com/products/ad5sarm6g.php (USB 3.0/3G eSATA) or http://www.addonics.com/products/ad5sarm6g.php (6G eSATA). I'd just have to do a little surgery to remove the original port multiplier and install the new.
I have tried selling the D500P bays on EBAY, but without success, so maybe a $75 upgrade for each unit might give them some new life as additional RAID HHD storage.
I'm curious if anyone else on the forum has attempted such an upgrade to an older enclosure.
