So, I stumbled upon a 1.2Ghz Sonnet Encore G4 upgrade and I have a Sawtooth with a 450Mhz G4 that could stand the upgrade. The Sonnet card does not have a heat sink on it, though and the stock apple Sink does not line up with the CPU on the Sonnet card. Anybody have any idea where I might be able to find a heat sink for this CPU or have any ideas for something that might work or know that the stock heat sink will work even if not completely aligned?

The apple heatsink should work. The chip on the sonnet is not centered on the PCB, but it should still make full contact with the block on the heatsink. Does the sonnet have copper shims installed? If so, it was probably sold for use with the apple heatsink.

I would suggest adding a small fan, like you can see in various pictures of sonnet heatsinks.

The Sonnet dual 1.2 did come with a fan, however. I'm not sure how that would do without it.

So, I tried this with the stock heat sink. It does work sort of, but the computer won't actually boot into OS 9 with that CPU installed and the heat sink get VERY hot. It gets me the normal chime on power up and OS 9 boots but locks up after the splash screen and does not populate the menu bar or desktop. Not sure where to go at this point. I have a Quicksilver with a NewerTech CPU upgrade in it. Does the Sonnet need a firmware update like the Newertech. I already checked and the boot ROM in the Sawtooth is already at 4.2.8 and it has the Uni-N Rev 7 motherboard. The newer tech had additional programming that needed to be done for that upgrade to work. Does Sonnet need that, too?

Pictures might help, but if it's a 1.2GHz Sonnet then it probably uses a 7455 chip and should not need a firmware patch. Does OS X run on it? The Sonnet web site does still have info and downloads relevant to os9 that you could try. The 68kmla forum also has info about this, and it seems there are "extensions" that might help. For example:
