Hello

I'm looking to add external disks and generally move and tidy up my firewire / usb periferals. I plan to add two cards, one with fw 800 ports for disks, one with usb / fw 400 for recording studio kit.

My G5 Dual 2.0 is pci so having momentarily concidered Belkin, but then come to my senses, I'm down to LaCie or Sonnet.

Any opinions would be apprecaited.

thanks and regards

Simon

I've used a mixture of USB and Firewire LaCie drives and haven't had any problems. One of them is over 5 years old.

Wholeheartedly agree with that Belkin comment. IMO their hardware sometimes offers some innovative, interesting features, but is usually quite poorly constructed.

I've added a few Sonnet cards to older macs over the years (if memory serves, a SATA card and a few processor upgrades) and I have never been dissatisfied. If it doesn't cost too much more, I'd go with them.
