Can anyone advice me on this. I have just purchased a Sonnet Tempo PCIe 3.0 SSD 512GB and will be installing it on my Mac Pro 3,1. I will be using Carbon Copy Cloner to do the cloning of my current WD 512GB drive.

Will I have to format the Tempo PCIe SSD before doing the cloning?

Thanks for your help

Yes, CCC expects a partition. I'm not sure if it has an internal format mechanism though.

Just create a single partition (or the layout you want) on it and point CCC to the volume, reboot to it (alt) and enable filevault again (will be disabled on copy; do not do this without a flashed/Apple EFI/original GPU).
