Sonoma from an ext drive on old MBPro

Is it possible to run Sonoma from an ext drive on my 13” Mid2012 MBPro? Iam aware that prolly the OpenCoreLegacyPatcher must be used, but the real question is if Sonoma can work from an ext drive. I want to use an ext drive so I will keep intact the Catalina OS that’s installed at the moment, and at the same time boot with Sonoma whenever I choose.
