I'm upgrading to 14.3 and started the update and it said 2 hours to download 2 GB. I then went to do a direct download of the full kit at 12.5 GB and it's taking 10 minutes. No idea why the update which is so much smaller takes so long but it may be faster to download the full kit if the update is slow.

I have 3 Macs to update so it will be more efficient this way anyways unless you can download just the updater.
 
There are multiple servers provide the update content. Some are faster/slower, sometimes. The Mac may not always connect to the same server.
