The Sonos app is currently unavailable to download on the iPhone and Mac App Stores owing to a mysterious problem that the company is currently looking into.

sonos-logo.jpg

The app disappeared as of about two hours ago, and the app's URL link currently throws up the message: "The page you're looking for can't be found," while a manual search in the App Store returns no results.

A red banner across the Sonos status page reads: "We have identified a problem with the Sonos App availability in the iOS / Mac App Stores and are working on a solution. You may experience issues downloading or updating the Sonos app from the App Store until this issue is resolved." The same page shows a major outage of Sonos Account, suggesting the problems are related.

The last info we had on the app's future came in a February Bloomberg report that said Sonos was preparing a major update that would aim to simplify navigation and introduce iPhone Lock Screen controls using Live Activities.

Those changes were supposed to be rolled out gradually "in the coming months," as part of a broader effort to rebuild confidence after the company's troubled 2024 software overhaul.

We'll update this story as soon as we know more.

Update: After several hours of outage, the Sonos app is back on the App Store, and the Sonos status page says that all systems are operational.

The only time, I use the Sonos app is to load updates to the speakers and I might do it once a year, if I remember.

Whoever designed the Sonos Apps (because there are TWO of them to cause maximal confusion for users) should get fired! Seriously! The speaker themselves are great but the apps are completely ruining the whole experience
They were. After the disastrous rollout that led to massive layoffs, the CEO and much of the executive team departed as well. Maybe know what you’re talking about before saying anything. As a result, they have done a tremendous job redesigning the app and as of today works very well. I use it often for both managing my 11 various speakers as well as playback directly through the app. They still have work to do but the difference is massive.

All my 11 SONOS speakers are working fine with iOS and iPad OS this morning. SONOS is working very well since last year. So if you haven't tried it and it's just "I heard something" like @Rafagon is writting.

Huh. The mods edited the whole point out of your post ("Please stop talking about stuff you just heard and not tried for yourself!" - basically "please don't mindlessly repeat unverified information", a quite reasonable ask), but left the mention of another user, which is presumably what they objected to.

Having the “new” Sonos app unavailable is a big improvement over having it available. I haven’t used my small Sonos speaker or their “app” in a few years, sticking with the HomePod which is far from perfect but doesn’t make you use a horrible “redesigned” Sonos app.

If you haven't used the official Sonos app in a few years I'd suggest giving it another chance. They've done a great job of fixing what was broken and releasing new features. The two features I really want are still missing (lock screen controls and widgets) but it's working massively better than it was.

MR mods are petty and inconsistent. A comment I made about one article got featured in another article, chosen by a MR writer, only to have my original comment get deleted by one of the petty mods while the comment remained in the article. It seems like there are no rules for the mods and they just act on vibes and feelings. (Guaranteed one of them has hurt feelings and deletes this very measured, reasonable, and factual comment too)

why the whinging?
Because there is a small, annoying and very vocal group of people on this site who hate Sonos and jump on every opportunity to trash them. I've been a Sonos customer for about 20 years now and I've had far fewer issues with my Sonos system than most of my other tech products, including Apple products.
