I have £400 (UK) to spend on a Digital Camcorder. I'm looking for a good quality picture and for it to be good in low level lighting.

We are expecting our first baby in a week or so, and i'd like to get some good footage of him in the early years, and use the camcorder for other home projects.

I've been looking for months and think i have finally settled on the Sony DCR-HC96 (External Mic would have been nice)., has anyone got any comments? Other recommendations? This will be ok with a MacBook and iMovie/ FCP?

Is there anything on the horizon that would justify holding out and missing some vids of our new born?

I'd love to go Hard Drive based and High Def, but i don't have the money.

This is where i have seen the Camcorder:

Reviews on Amazon seem good:

Thanks
