Hi, I just joined and would love to find out how this review;(http://www.it-enquirer.com/main/ite/more/sony_dvd_rw_dru_810a_review/), of the Sony DRU810A burner by a seemingly reputable site, states from their LAST paragraph of the review that; "The Sony DRU-810A is a beautifully designed external DVD-burner with full Mac OS X support. It’s a fast burner with high-quality media, and burning results are of high quality, resulting in no coasters and relatively fast mounts --all assuming you use Verbatim or Apple media for DVD, and Verbatim, or LaCie media for CD-R.

For the technically interested, here are the test data:

Operating system: Mac OS X 10.4.3 "

Doe ANYONE know how to get around the Sony software disc? How else could this have "full Mac Os X support"? Granted I am new at this, but I would appreciate your thoughts as to how this could be. By the way it looks very internal, not external. We have a G4, does anyone know if it would work with that? Thank you very much for your input.

Hi.
Not sure if this helps, but I have the Sony DRX 800UL external burner, aprecursor of yours. I expect it is packaged the same as yours, with Firewire and USB connectors. My drive came with no (zero) support for Mac - only Windows and was bundled with all of the Nero software. However, super-duper OS X (Panther 10.3.9) and Toast have no problems recognising this drive and I have succesfully burnt DVDs and CDs (both -R and +r) with it. Some DVD media (Arita especially) give a few problems, but nothing that has caused grief. Just plug it in and see what happens? :)

Apologies for crashing this thread, but I'm hoping you are still there UKnjb. I too have a Sony DRX 800UL and I'm running Panther 10.3.9 on an eMac 1Ghz, and using Patch Burn. For the first time I need to burn a dual layer dvd and find that the drive only sees the DVD+R DL as a single layer disc. Any comments or advice would be very much appreciated.
