I just got a Sony Handycam DCR-SR42 Camcorder and the darn thing doesn't come with a firewire port! Does anyone know of a way to use USB instead, that might work? Thanks, I'm dead in the water without it.

(I have a brand new imac intel)

Uh... use USB. It has USB. So use it.

From Amazon.com
USB 2.0 interface USB 2.0 interface provides an easy way to connect your hard disk Handycam to the computer and fast transfer of video and still images for editing. The camcorder can also be used as an external storage device, convenient for archiving, storing and trasporting your videos and still images.

There are a few sony handycam models listed on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014
I'd make sure I fully update to iMovie 7.1.4 and try connecting it. AppleCare also has an iApps department that can probably walk you through some steps to see if it compatible or not and you should still be within your 90 days of complimentary support.
