I have a sony handycam HDR CX200 and a Power mac 5 OSX. When I connect the camera via usb ipicture opens and I can import photos but no option opens for importing video.

You may need software to import the video clips, iPhoto (ipicture as you said) can import pictures and video, but doesnt recognize the AVCHD format that your camera shoots video at. The camera may have shipped with software to do so, or you would also use a program like Final Cut Pro.

You should be able to connect the camera, and copy the .mts files from the camera to your computer.

Also, you are able to connect an external harddrive directly to that camera and copy the video and pixtures to the drive for backup.. and then if you want to view them you can hook the drive back to the camera, hook the camera to your tv and voila, watch your clips.
