Our Tv Production class just got a new IMac and a new Sony HVR-HD1000U for our new school year, the only problem is, is that when ever were want to transfer the files from the camera to final cut pro, the Mac doesn't recognize it. We also went to system profiler, and it still does recognize via. fire wire, if anybody can help, please do.

Sony HVR-HD1000U not recognizing on IMAC

The camera is set to PLAY/VCR, isn't it? Have you tried another Firewire cable or even another Mac, just to make sure? Maybe the i.Link (Firewire name from Sony) port is broken.

yea its set to play/edit and we hooked it up to a different iMac and it did work with the same camera and firewire but it took a long time for it to be recognized and it was first recognized in iMovie and then it finally showed up on Final cut and in system profile.
