That camera is a miniDV camcorder, it records in SD and in HD, but the actual manual can give you more detailed information, or the package the camera came in with, as it most probably listed some functions of the camera.

If you have a Unibody MacBook Pro (since 10/2008), you need a 4-pin to 9-pin Firewire cable, Sony calls Firewire i.Link.

iMovie, coming with every Mac as part of the iLife suite, will be able to capture the camera's footage.
