Soooo, when is the new ATV being released?

I thought that the new ATV would've been revealed this week.
But it didn't. Any rumors with a indication of a date? This is a total long shot, but just trying to create a hype here

Nobody really knows, it seems like the March event may have been a plant to flush out leakers. There's supposedly an event in April but we don't know. The Apple TV has apparently been finished since last year and Apple are just sitting on it. I'm hoping they come up with something good for it and I hope it does come at an April event.

I can see why people would want a redesigned remote and possibly a bump in processor speed and RAM, but I can't imagine that the sort of spec bumps we'd see in a new Apple TV would warrant much fanfare. It's definitely a niche market in the Apple ecosystem, and I can't imagine any hardware changes that would radically change things. I'm perfectly content with my 4th Generation and don't see myself upgrading until I have to replace my current TV and upgrade to 4/8K.

Additionally, my biggest current pain points (unable to FF on AT&T TV DVR with Siri remote voice commands, lack of PiP for a lot of third-party video apps, including ones that allow PiP on iOS devices) are software-related and won't be affected by a hardware upgrade.

For cable cutters firmly entrenched in the Apple ecosystem with vast media libraries, the Apple TV is a no-brainer. For the general digital media consumer, it seems like a huge price premium without a tremendous return on investment.

Not anything solid. It could be tomorrow, it could be next week, it could be never.

There has been rumors of a new Apple TV for years, and obviously, none of them worked out.

The current ATV4k, while over 3 years old, is still a very capable streaming box. Actually, the A10X chip inside is still faster than anything the competition is offering now.

The price is steep when compared to the competition, especially if the intended use is just to stream content from Netflix, HBO Max, etc.

While the ATV4K is still faster than the competition, for many people, that faster speed isn't going to matter much once you start streaming something.

If you are into games, or might be in the future, the ATV4K is a great device. The game offerings is still lacking, and developer support for tvOS has really dropped off over the past few years, but it is still probably the best gaming/streaming box (excluding actual consoles).

I could use a lot more storage. The storage messages are a huge pain.

If the rumors of a gaming-centric ATV end up being true, bundled with an Apple design controller, larger storage, and maybe have some AAA game titles with it, that would warrant some fanfare.

I am looking forward to replacing my Apple TV, which went "Kaput" several years ago. Or maybe I just lost track of how to plug it in correctly, anything is possible! The main thing is so I can watch "Apple TV+" on my "Apple TV". I can already stream netflix from ... my TV itself!!! Doggone it (catty thing to say I know) there is a Netflix button and an Amazon button right there on the remote control! Ok, so that is pretty cheezy but ... also super convenient (as it turns out). Ted Lasso, tho, I have to watch on my phone. Oh, well, take your time, Apple. I know it will be pretty good when it finally does arrive. Cheers! 🍸😸

I thought one would be released in 2019. Boy was I wrong. Glad I didn't wait to buy back then.

I have an Apple TV 4K for my main TV (65" 4K OLED), and an Apple TV HD for my secondary TV (43" 4K IPS). However, I am thinking getting a new TV for my home office (55" 4K VA), so it'd be nice if Apple would release a new Apple TV already. I'm currently using an Amazon Fire TV 4K with a 768p plasma, and I'm really itchin' to upgrade, especially now that I'm in my home office so much due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 😷

Anyhow, I will go on record to make another prediction. This time I predict sometime in 2021. I hope that's not just wishful thinking. 😟
