I'm new to Mac. Would someone point me to a software removal tool (free preferred) for Mac that removes installed apps and their residue? I heard dragging to the trash leaves parts of an installed app behind.

TIA

I've heard that appZapper is alright, though I've not tried it.

usually deleting the prefs and any files in the application / application support folders is enough.

appzapper is not free..but its close. something like $13 to license it and any updated version that comes out.

you can use it for free 5 times before you have to reinstall or register it. ;)

The beauty of Mac is that you can uninstall the significant portions of a program by trashing the application itself.

All programs would have a preferences file located in /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/, and some other bits in /Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/

Some programs might have other components and are a bit harder to rid yourself of. Generally, they have an uninstaller that comes with the program.

AppZapper is the guaranteed way to rid yourself of all traces.
