On our other iMacs, the computer delivers more than enough volume. Nevertheless, I use an external DAC and amp. The difference in sound quality is immediately apparent. Can you Solder? I've built two of these, one for home and another for work. Not audiophile, but much better than what Apple uses. http://www.glassjaraudio.com/produc...2850FF5.qscstrfrnt06?productId=6&categoryId=4 Glass Jar sells some headphone amp kits too. I'm using something else.
