Sound Cards in MBP

I'm setting up a home music studio, intending to use a Macbook Pro as the Workstation (as soon as they are updated)

I had intended on using the Audio out port and sending that straight to my mixer. I imagine the sound card will be a generic integrated one..? Will this allow accurate sound monitoring? Has anyone any experience using a Macbook Pro for producing?
Will I need an external sound card?

I know enough about computers (this will be my first mac, however!) and I know a bit about music and audio, but I am by no means an expert.
