Sound delay when streaming on Apple TV

I have a macbook pro 17" and a tv connected to an Apple TV. Whenever I try to use the Apple TV as a speaker using airtunes I get a small but extremely annoying ½ second delay between the two sound outputs.

Anyone know of similar issues? Or maybe my Apple TV is just screwed up? Any help would be appreciated.
