i have a iphone 3gs the ringtones work fine but when i play a game or play a song i have no sound and theres no volume bar at the bottom .

now i only get volume on music when i plug in headphones but i still don't get sound for games and things like mesage tones text tones.

Have you tried a reset (hold down Power and Home buttons simultaneously, releasing both only after seeing the apple appear on the black screen)?

Many of the larger games have closed my sounds, so I stop playing and turn the phone off and right back on. It works for me.
