Sound Issue in imovie

I recorded some interviews for a documentary Im workin on. However, since I didnt use a mic, I now have moments in which the ambient sounds is louder than the the interviewee. I tried to use the noise reducer in imovie but it didnt really work. I was wondering if there is another way of reducing the ambient noise and boosting the interviewee's voice, maybe final cut pro?
