Sound issue

I was surfing the net the other day when my iMac shut down unexpectedly and now I have no sound coming from it whether it be from iTunes, youtube, whatever.

Any suggestions? I looked at system preferences with no luck.

Still looking for suggestions. I went into settings and I only have a listing for "headphones". Would that matter? It won't work on external speakers either. Thanks in advance.
