sound keybrd buttons out after sleep

on my mac pro beast, i got the new issue that after waking it from sleep, the sound keybrd button don't work anymore...the white-on-gray display is there and reacts, but the volume does not change anymore...anybody know this and has a fix?

osx10.6.8
MacPro5,1
