Sound not working on my macbook

Hello, so yeah I've had this problem before and I can't remember how I fixed it. It started with the little red light inside the headphone output and the sound not working. I've tried the paper clip and stuff but it's not working and the red light is gone but the sound still isn't working!

There is an OS X update that fixes this. Have you run software update in a while? If the problem is just temporary you can try my old solution of sucking/blowing on the port but Apple released a real fix for this.
