I tried creating a new rule for all messages in preferences to allow Mail to sound the new mail chime for incoming messages, but with no luck. I was successful in creating a new rule for all messages to make the Mail icon jump in the dock, but not for the sounds. Does anyone know why this could be?

Mail already makes a sound when you get a new message.

No, I know that. I am talking about sounds when not actually in the application. As in- Mail is running fullscreen, but I am in Safari fullscreen at the moment. When I get new mail, the icon jumps with its little red badge, yet no new mail chime even though it is set. It was not working before I set the specific Rule, so I figured I'd set the Rule, but still no luck.
