I took my iPad 2 on a trip this last weekend and I had put a couple movies on it to watch on the plane. I noticed the sound was very soft, I had it at full volume and some of the dialog was difficult to hear. I was using some of the Bose Quiet Comfort 2 headphones too which are really good on planes.

The movies were all 720p movies from my computer and I've noticed when I watch them on there I need to put the volume up higher than on standard def movies so I'm hoping that's the issue. I haven't had a chance to convert an SD movie and put it on the iPad yet.

Has anyone else had any issues with watching videos while on a plane and had trouble hearing?

I doubt this has anything to do with SD vs HD, some movie files just come with very soft volume. There's a setting in iTunes to boost volume -- somewhere inside the various tabs you get when you do "Get Info" on a video file. Do this before syncing your videos to iPad, and you'll be fine.
