I use since a many years a USB sound card to connect external speakers to my Mac mini and use these speakers as default sound output. This card is listed in the Sound preferences as "USB PnP Sound Device." This setup worked since long with two different iMacs and my current Mac mini.
However, since a couple of days the sound output changes by itself during startup to my Dell U2715H monitor which is connected through the DisplayPort - and has no speakers. In other words: there is no sound after starting my computer until I change the output manually back to the external speakers.
When I unplug the sound card while the computer is running the sound out also changes back to the Dell monitor - apparently the Mac thinks that this monitor is the default output device.
How can I get rid of the Dell monitor as an output device in the Sound preferences? I can not remove a devices in the Sound preference itself, and in the Audio MIDI Setup application - where this would be possible - the monitor is not listed as a sound device.
